Useless & Beautiful: Dan Tobin Smith, The First Law of Kipple

_MG_6334_b

This weekend the London Design Festival took us to Dan Tobin Smith’s installation, The First Law of Kipple; a room full of knick knack, beautifully organised by colors, with all the possible gradients in between them. The installation is inspired by Philip K Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Sheep, in which the author describes kipple as a byproduct of everyday life – “useless objects, like junk mail or match folders after you use the last match”.

The First Law of Kipple opened on September 13 at Dan Tobin Smith Studio,
52c Whitmore Road, London N1 5QG. For details, see londondesignfestival.com.
